Commedia del Arte

A style of physical theatre originating in the streets of Italy in the 16th century. Commedia involves use of masks, stock characters, simple plots of misfortune, mis-identity, misunderstandings, and basic human drives. Commedia often involves acrobatic stunts, fast movement, chases, and improvisation around a general outline on the part of the actors.
