Australian Circus Students Win International Bronze

National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) students, Julian Aldag and Billie Wilson-Coffey won the coveted Bronze trophy at the 4th World Festival of Circus Art, in Moscow. Aldag and Wilson-Coffey are the first Australians invited to perform at this international festival. They were awarded their trophy for their act Memento, selected from an international field of 24 acts from 10 countries.

Pamela Creed, the institution’s Director and CEO, is very proud of the students and their dedicated teachers and said that their success is testament to the high calibre of students and teachers staff at the institute. The duo aerial act, titled Memento, was devised by the students and their aerial instructor, Helene Embling, who has been teaching Julian and Billie for three years. It was selected by the organising committee for its strength, beauty and grace.

Julian, 22 years of age, is originally from Adelaide and Billie, 20, is originally from Mullumbimby, NSW. They both moved to Melbourne to study the 3 year Bachelor of Circus Arts at NICA and are currently in the final year of the 3 year Bachelor of Circus Arts.

“It was a great opportunity to perform alongside so many world-class acts,” Julian said. “We are thrilled as the competition was so strong,” added Billie.
