Tim Rutty

Growing up in the Dandenong Ranges, Tim trained and performed in local community circus and theatre groups, RUCCIS and Gemco Players. While completing his bachelor of circus arts at the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA), specialising in aerial rope, hand-balancing and acrobatics he gained great interest in the movement and dance components of the course and how it could be intergraded into his circus disciplines.

Since graduating and co-founding Gravity Dolls with Tarah Carey, Tim has focused his curiosity and passion for performing on blending circus, theatre and movement. To deepen his understanding of how the three forms can work in unison, Tim continues to develop his skills as a performer of text through studying acting at 16th Street Actors Studio and private voice lessons with Sarah Ward (Yana Alana), taking dance classes at the Melbourne School of Classical Dance and with Tessa Henning.

Tim’s love for physicality has seen him perform internationally and regularly across Australia. His international credits include the opening ceremony at the 34e Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demaine in Paris, Made To Fit in Auch as well as touring with Strange Fruit. Tim has also performed extensively throughout Australia including the Asia Cup Opening Ceremony, Nickelodeon Tennis Day, continued touring with the circus cabarets Papillon and Paris Underground, as well as being a resident performer at Pacha, The Ivy in Sydney. Past awards include 2nd Runner up in Aerial All Stars, Australia’s first national aerial competition and the Circus Oz NICA Graduate Award.
