Performers

Emily Ryan

With her long dark hair, 5,10 stature, incredible muscle tone and legs that seemingly go on forever, Emily Ryan doesn’t look like your average female acrobat. But throw in a German Wheel, Sway Pole, Trapeze and some Acrobatics and you have one of Australia’s most talented and sort after Circus Performers.

Melbourne born Emily trained and competed as a high level gymnast for 10 years, before being accepted in 2003, to the National Institute of Circus Arts. Since then, Emily's German Wheel and acrobatic talents have been in high demand and taken her across the globe, where she has become renowned for her beautiful stage presence, remarkable bodylines and flawless performances.

Emily’s circus career began in 2005 after she attended her graduation ceremony and then performed on stage that very night with Australia’s biggest traditional Circus, Silver’s Circus. Emily has maintained a strong affiliation with Silver’s Circus – her “second family”, valuing their commitment to Australian circus and traditional way of life, performing with them regularly whenever she is back in Australia.

In 2007, Emily joined iconic Australian company, Strange Fruit. She has been part of the creative team for many of their international touring shows and often juggles the role of director and performer. Emily was one of two lead performers for Carnival in Rio, flying on a pole attached to the front of the main float in front of 50,000 people. A world first in 2013 saw Emily on a 15-meter sway pole swinging through a purpose built water wall for a laser light show on the Brisbane River.

Between Silver’s Circus and Strange Fruit, Emily has captivated audiences around the world with her powerful and striking acts on the German Wheel and has performed at many corporate events. Emily has also appeared as a stunt performer and body double on numerous television commercials. She was one of the founding members of Australian small company “This Side Up’, and has performed at many festivals around Australia with them since.

In 2015 Emily was invited by Cirque Du Soleil to create and perform in “Allavita” for World Expo in Milan. She is returning to Cirque Du Soleil in 2016 to create and perform her three passions - German Wheel, Sway Pole and acrobatics, for an expo show in Antalya, Turkey.
