Thomas Worrell

Originally from Sydney, Thomas Worrell graduated from NICA with a Bachelor of Circus Arts specialising in Aerial Hoop and Contortion/Hand Balancing.

Thomas performed in Downpour with the A4 Circus Ensemble in 2009. Their first show, DownPour, was selected for the inaugural Montreal Completement Cirque circus festival in Canada in 2010. His combination of contortion, dance and modern Aerial Hoop has earned him rave reviews.

Thomas has also performed at Sydney’s Hoopla Festival in which his two acts explored the themes of depression and toxic relationships. Thom also worked as an aerialst and trainer on the Global Creatures productions, How To Train Your Dragon and King Kong the Musical.

When talking about his “narrative” style acts, Worrell says Australians are leading the way in regards to circus practice overseas. “There are directors and companies now presenting shows with storylines that you can follow, so it becomes more theatre-based rather than just, ‘Here’s my act, he’s my tricks, [just] razzle-dazzle and glitter”.

In 2011 Thom performed in Le Grand Cirque’s Adrenaline at the Sydney Opera House and has made himself known as one of the most versatile Contortion/Hand Balance acrobats in the country.

In 2012 Thom competed in the SolyCirco festival in Sylt, Germany where he was awarded an “Engagement Award” with Winter Garten in Berlin.

Most recently Thom has been performing with Le Noir: the intimate side of cirque, in Tokyo and Singapore as well as competing in the Australian Pole Fitness Championships in the Acrobatic Hoop Division.
